I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, IL the youngest of three children. I had an older brother and older sister. As a young girl I rode my bike until dark, climbed trees, played jacks, jump rope, tetherball, box hockey and hula hoop. I swam in the summer and ice skated in the winter. I attended Catholic school and was a good student. I had the same best friend for 9 years until we moved. I went to Chicago Cubs baseball games on Sundays with my Dad.
I was a Girl Scout for 5 years and really enjoyed it. I loved going camping with my Troup and still enjoy camping to this day because of it. I love sleeping outside in nature, listening to the birds sing, watching the stars at night and the smell of a campfire. I still love the taste of s’mores too!
Growing up I don’t remember traveling much but we spent two weeks each summer with my Aunt & Uncle in Michigan. They had the coolest place ever, with 500 acres and two ponds. We fished, swam, hiked and played cards. I spent a lot of time reading books like Nancy Drew and the entire “Little House” series. It was fun seeing all of my relatives and there were a lot of them since my Mom came from a family of 10 and they all lived in Michigan.
My high school years were pretty uneventful. I was a good student and had a lot of friends including a steady boyfriend. During that time I spoke of going to college but whenever it was discussed my parents always indicated to me that there was no money to go away to college. I wanted to be out on my own after graduation so the thought of attending junior college and living at home didn’t really appeal to me. It was at this time that I began to plan a move to California.
A year after graduating from high school I packed up my car and moved to California with money I had saved from working as a grocery clerk. I originally settled near Palm Springs but moved to Los Angeles after two scorching summers in the desert. I continued working as a grocery clerk for many years, the money and benefits were good and work environment was clean however, the job was not very challenging. I loved living in California and never thought about moving back to Chicago even though I missed my family.
After about 5 years or so of working in the grocery business I became very bored and started to attend junior college searching for a better life. I started out by taking classes in Graphic Arts and found I really enjoyed the challenges of being in school as well as the Graphics field. I achieved an A.A. Degree in Graphic Arts and then applied and was accepted to a University 4 hours away in the beautiful little town of San Luis Obispo, CA.
Selling the mobile home I owned, quitting my job and moving 250 miles away from anyone I knew was really difficult but I was ready for the challenge. I was so happy to be going to a “real” college and enjoyed my college experience tremendously. I fell in love with San Luis Obispo too. I really appreciated my college time because it had not come easy. After working as a grocery clerk I knew how much having a degree meant. In December of 1986 at 29 years old I graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Graphic Communication Printing Management from California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, CA. Yippee!
My first job out of college was everything that I had ever dreamed of. I loved it! I moved back to Southern California and started working for a mid-size printing company. My goal was to be a Printing Sales Rep. After just 3 months I was promoted into the sales department. I worked hard and brought in alot of new customers and printing jobs. I cold called, created relationships and built a steady stream of happy customers. I bought my first house, BMW and life was good.
After 4 years of working and living in Southern California I made a decision to move back to San Luis Obispo. I really missed living there and chose to relocate to the area again. I began working for a Screen Printing Company working in Sales and Customer Service. It was during this time that I met and began dating my children’s father. We were married within a year of meeting.
After returning from a three week honeymoon I discovered I was pregnant with my first child. Wow that was fast! After his birth I had a strong desire to stay home and started searching for a way to work from home. I began a retail business and started going to different events where I would sell sunglasses. Many times I would take my baby boy along in a play pen.
A daughter followed almost 3 years to the day after my son and she was a beauty. I was really happy to be a Mom but not happy in my marriage. After almost 9 years of marriage and kids 4 and 7 we divorced and I became a single Mom. I was still in the sunglass business but had now opened a kiosk in the local mall with employees, in addition to still traveling to events. I was a busy working Mom to say the least!
By this time I had moved from San Luis Obispo to Coarsegold, CA but still spent time and traveled to shows there. It was during one of these times that God smiled upon me and sent me my wonderful husband, Doug. We endured a long distance relationship for 6 months before he quit his aerospace job and relocated with me to Coarsegold. We were married in a intimate ceremony with our best friends by our sides on the Big Island of Hawaii in 2001.
Doug & I make a great team and with his help we opened more sunglasses kiosks in malls around the state of CA. At one point we also expanded with a partner into Utah. We had 9 kiosks in different malls and almost 30 employees.
As our business grew so did the stress of managing all the employees. Although we were very successful and the money was flowing it seemed like there were always headaches and it began to take a toll on my health. I started to feel like I didn’t own my business my business owned me. There were also many changes in the way that malls assigned their leases and because of those changes we lost some key locations. In addition, as the economy began to plummet our income dwindled. Because of these changes in the landscape I started to look to the internet and global market for another business.
I “bumped into” all the hype, big houses, large breasted women, fancy cars and “fluff” on the internet that you are probably finding in your search for a home-based business. I even fell for some of them so don’t be gullible like I was and think you can just sign up for a program and your mail box will fill up with cash. I kept searching for a Real business with a Real product. I wanted to represent something I could be proud of. Something that would offer value to people as well as provide a powerful compensation plan that used the Power of Leverage to create wealth and improve people’s lives.
I didn’t want to sell juice, vitamins or candles. I wanted to be involved with a top tier company and product so that when someone said “yes” it made a significant difference in the lives of my family and for those I mentored to success. After all, the skillsets I needed to learn to become an internet marketer were the same, so why not make a $1000 dollars for my efforts instead of just $20 bucks!
I would not be denied and so I kept searching for the answer… In 2008, I discovered Global Resorts Network and boy am I ever glad I didn’t let past failures talk me out of this awesome business. One of the reasons I joined was because I love to travel and have been around the globe. I also liked that the company has stability and a 23 year history! This my friends is the “real deal” not a scam. I hope you will take a serious look at this business and see if it is right for your family as it has been right for mine. http://www.globalmentorsecrets.com
